Masterful Carving - Large Shell Cameo - Botticelli's Three Graces

Description

In excellent condition, this beauty is from a Richmond, Va estate sale. The cameo is superbly carved with very fine detail, copying the Three Graces of Botticelli's 1480 painting, "Primivera."  Depicted is a group of three young, barefoot women dressed in diaphanous gowns, delicately joining hands in a dance celebrating Spring.

A simple, "goldtone" pin back frame came with this cameo and fits it perfectly, but is probably meant to be a temporary setting.
