Description
Postcard advertising tourism to Japanese-occupied Korea, issued by the Japanese Tourist Bureau for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. A sensitive and controversial topic today perhaps, the card reflects the attempt by the Japanese government to expand their empire similarly to that of the Western Powers who cut up much of China into spheres of influence. While not commonly reflected upon today, our resistance to this concept was one of the proximal causes of the Greater East Asian Conflict, what we tend to call the Pacific Theater of the Second World War. While not specifically marked as such, the back printing is similar to that of the "Phostint" cards produced by Detroit Publishing, which suggest they printed these for the Japanese Government. Postally unused, light signs of wear from storage, maybe a tiny bit of corner wear and very light scuffs. Please note that my "free shipping" costs me about .00, as I am required by ebay to provide tracking - these will be shipped in a rigid mailer for protection in transit.
