This is an excellent example of a fossil lobster. This is Eryma modestiformis from the famous Solnhofen Limestone of Germany. This formation is world renowned for the fine preservation of the fossils that are occasionally found there. This amazing specimen is extremely well preserved and exhibits the head, carapace, and both large claws - even some of the legs and antennae are easily seen! The fossil arthropod has gorgeous natural coloration and contrasts well with the cream-colored matrix. The distinct fossil is well showcased on the very large, natural display plate of lithographic limestone. This is a textbook specimen of this unusual crustacean with both long antennae intact from a World Class locality. (The last three photos were taken in direct sunlight near sunset.)
