    Description

Offered is this lot of eight antique documents, all from the Office of Ordinary (now Probate Court) of Floyd County, Georgia. Four of the documents are from 1906, three are from 1907 and one is from 1908. All eight are petitions seeking a work certificate for children, filed in response to Georgia's first child labor law, signed on August 1, 1906 and due to take effect on Jan. 1, 1907, which prohibited children under 12 from working in a factory. Children who were at least 10 could do factory work, however, if a work certificate was issued by the court due to the child being an orphan with no other support or a child who had a widowed mother or disabled father.
Each document is approx. 8 3/8" x 7 1/8". All are in good condition, with a few in very good condition. There are no major holes but there may be a few small holes. All are creased on the folds and some have additional creases. All have browned but are readable.
