    Wow look at this huge specimen! This Crab Fossil was found in West Java Indonesia. The chances of crab forming fossils in nature is extremely rare. This fossil is from the Paleozoic era which is about 10 million years ago. The Paleozoic was a time of dramatic climate and evolutionary change. Due to sudden changes in the earth crust crabs were buried in the ground with no time to escape. Over time a small number of prehistoric crabs did not decay and with suitable environment gradually fossilized forming into a rock fossil.  This kind of fossil is very rare especially if the crab is wholly intact.
