Description
Offered are these two antique legal documents on the same piece of blue paper, from Macoupin County, Illinois. One is two-sided and handwritten, dated March 15, 1854 on one side and April 5, 1854 on the other side. Henry Caldwell, Justice of the Peace, has signed the document on one side and has written the text on the other side. Below the portion Caldwell has written another pre-printed document with handwritten areas filled in has been glued on to the blank part of the page. This is also dated April 5, 1854 and certifies that Caldwell was a Justice of the Peace. This has been signed by Enoch Wall, Clerk of the County Court.The paper is approx. 8 7/8" x 8". It is in very good condition for its age. There are no holes or tears, but there are crease lines along the folds and some areas of browning. The writing is still quite dark and is readable.
