    Description

Offered is this unusual antique document from Floyd County, Georgia, an exemplification from the Court of Ordinary for the marriage of a couple from the same county in 1840. The entirely handwritten document has three sections: the first section is a handwritten marriage license issued by Floyd County, for Rachel Hood and a Thomas somebody (I'm not sure what the last name is-see photo #2), dated September 9, 1840. The second section certifies that the couple were legally wed on September 10, 1840. The third section is the exemplification (legal verification) of the above two sections, dated May 10, 1893 and bearing a county gold foil seal. As the handwriting, ink, etc. all appear to match, I'm assuming the top two sections were hand-copied in 1893 from the original 1840 documents at the courthouse.
The document is approx. 13 5/8" x 8 7/8". It is in very good condition, with no holes or tears, all of the writing clear. It is slightly rough-cut along the top edge, heavily creased along the fold lines and the foil seal is tarnished and hard to read.
    It will be sent folded.
